TROOP MEETINGS
Troop 395 has meetings presently scheduled for every Sunday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. These meetings are held at the Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney, Michigan. There will usually be a minimum of four (4) organized meetings per month with the following exceptions:
- during the summer months (June – August)
- during those months when weather conditions or other factors necessitate meeting cancellation
- during those months when the conclusion of an outing occurs on a Sunday
Troop meetings are usually organized by the Senior Patrol Leader (with support from troop leadership) in the following format:
- 5-10 minutes Opening and announcements
- 20-25 minutes Scout skill training either by class or by individual instruction
- 20-25 minutes Inter-Patrol competition among Patrols, Patrol meetings are substituted as needed.
- 20-25 minutes Games
- 5-10 minutes Awards, announcements, closing
Every Troop meeting is structured to provide as many chances as possible for as many Scouts as possible to work on rank advancement and to use leadership skills.
OUTINGS
Troop 395 schedules most of its outings once a year at its annual planning meeting during which the Scouts themselves decide on those types of activities they want to participate in during the coming year. Upon approval by the Troop Committee, the annual calendar is issued at the first Troop meeting in September (and is periodically updated) to enable Scout families to plan for maximum participation. One weekend outing per month is usually planned, generally leaving on Friday evening or early Saturday morning and returning mid-afternoon on Sunday.
The Troop also attends one long-term camp (7-9 days) during the Scout year, usually in late June or early to mid-July. Older Scouts are strongly encouraged to participate in Troop, Council, and National High Adventure outings at every available opportunity.
The Scouts are expected to perform all camp routines as Patrols. Adults offer only counseling.
Approximately two weeks before each outing, a permission slip accompanied with information about the outing details will be distributed. Details will include all necessary information about that particular outing. Signed permission slips are returned to the Adult Leader in charge for that outing (usually no later than the Monday prior to the event) so those final planning arrangements for that outing can take place. Fees collected for each outing include registration, meals, and transportation. Other fees may be included as necessary.
Patrols are encouraged to go on separate outings as long as the event has been approved at least one week in advance. A minimum of two adults are required on all Scout outings.
