Q: What equipment will a scout need?
A: The troop provides much of what a scout will need. Personal camping equipment, such as a warm sleeping bag and ground pad, will be important. Scouts are provided with a packing list specific to the needs of each outing.
Q: What does a scout wear?
A: The normal uniform for a scout is called a “Class A.” These can be purchased online or at a local scout shop. The troop may have access to a limited amount of (gently) used uniforms, if needed. Class A uniforms are worn at all troop meetings, while traveling with the troop, and at all scouting events (including summer camp). At times, it is acceptable for scouts to wear an informal uniform called a “Class B.” These are troop 395 branded shirts and sweatshirts. The troop usually produces a run of class b uniforms once per year.
Q: What is the responsibility of a parent of a new scout?
A: The first priority of a parent or guardian of a new scout should be to learn the troop. All parents are automatically part of the troop committee and are asked to attend troop committee meetings once per month. This meeting is a primary means by which information is discussed, communicated, and where troop decisions are made. Above all, supporting your scout in their scouting journey is the first priority. Participating in outings and serving the troop as a merit badge counselor are all great ways to get more involved.
